Towing Advice with Private (Non-Britz) vehicle

It is required that the private vehicle used to tow the Britz caravan or camper trailer will be the same vehicle used to collect the caravan or camper trailer from the Britz depot and will be the same vehicle towing the caravan or camper trailer for the duration of the hire period.

The private vehicle must be comprehensively insured and be registered during the hire period of the caravan or camper trailer. Proof of both requirements being met is required upon caravan or camper trailer collection. Failure to adhere will result in refusal to rent the caravan or camper trailer.

Please take note of the weight (tare and tow ball weights) of the caravan and camper trailer (available from Britz) and ensure the towing vehicle complies. The rental will be refused if compliance is not evident and it is the hirer’s responsibility to ensure compliance.

In the event of rental refusal full cancellation costs will apply and the hirer will not be given any refunds.

Advice on the correct hitching and un-hitching of the caravan or camper trailer is provided on collection however it is the hirer’s responsibility to ensure correct procedures are followed during the hire.

DELIVERY OPTION
Britz offer a delivery service to customers who may not want to tow or have the means to tow a caravan or camper trailer. The delivery location must be within a maximum of 200kms from the branch (maximum 400kms round trip). It is required in this instance that customers can come to one of the Britz branches in advance of the hire taking place and within business hours to pre-pay in full the rental charges and the security deposit (refer to the security deposit section for more information about security deposits).

The service requires that you have booked a campsite at a commercial campground for the duration of the hire. Britz will deliver the camper trailer or caravan to the booked site and meet you there. Alternatively Britz can deliver the product to a private residence to be set up on site. The cost for this service is the hire charge plus $1.50 per kilometre to deliver and collect the caravan or camper trailer, in both cases this is a round trip service charge. The caravan or camper trailer must stay on the site it is delivered.

This service is on request and is subject to availability and distance.

FOR YOUR PROTECTION – CARAVAN/CAMPER TRAILER LIABILITY#
Personal injury is covered in most cases through Registration Third Party insurance. Britz strongly recommends that all people travelling in Australia take out personal travel insurance.

Damages, however sustained to the private vehicle and third party property are the hirer’s own responsibility. Britz is not responsible for any damages caused to or by the private vehicle.

# In the USA a liability is referred to as the “deductible”.

All caravans and camper trailers are insured for damage to the caravan and camper trailer. The hirer is responsible for the first AU$5,000 (“the liability”) of the cost of damage to the rented caravan or camper trailer, including single vehicle accident, tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the caravan or camper trailer is unable to be rented whilst being repaired.

The liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The liability will be refunded if Britz is successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the Third Party. Please note that Third Party claims can take months to resolve.

The liability applies in respect of each claim, not rental.

Please see the ‘Exclusions’ section below, whereby all liability cover will be made void.

This AU$5,000 liability can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of the Liability Reduction Option or the Britz Bonus Pack.

Liability Reduction Option
Cost per day                                      Liability reduced to
                    AU$30 (max charge AU$1,500)                              $500

When Liability Reduction Option 2 has been purchased the hirer will be responsible for the first AU$500 (“the liability”) of the cost of damage to the rented caravan or camper trailer. This includes single vehicle accident, tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the caravan or camper trailer is unable to be rented whilst being repaired.

The liability applies in respect of each claim, not rental.

Note: The Liability Reduction Option with a NIL liability is included in the Britz Bonus Pack

Please see the ‘Exclusions’ section below, whereby all liability cover will be made void.

26. Damages, however sustained to the private vehicle or Third party property are the hirer’s own responsibility. Britz is not responsible for any damages to the private vehicle or Third party property.

In the case of clause 24 and 25 if it is apparent upon caravan or camper trailer collection that the private vehicle is not suitable to tow and/or the private vehicle is not comprehensively insured, is unregistered or will become unregistered or uninsured during the hire, the rental will be refused. In this scenario full cancellation costs will be incurred and the hirer will not be entitled to any refund.

SECURITY DEPOSIT
Upon caravan or camper trailer collection, a security deposit is required. The amount is determined by the Liability Reduction Option selected.

For security purposes, only a credit card can be used to provide a security deposit. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the security deposit upon collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle, caravan and/or camper trailer. Any type of pre-paid travel card is not acceptable as a means to provide a vehicle security deposit. Visa and MasterCard debit cards are acceptable provided the card is being used as a credit card.

Debited security deposits are subject to a 2% credit card administration fee in addition to the security deposit amount when the credit card used is either a Visa or MasterCard or 4.5% for American Express.

If a Liability Reduction Option is not selected, the security deposit is AU$5,000 payable by credit card. AU$1,500 is debited to the hirer’s credit card upon collection. For this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the amount does not exceed the hirer’s daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card. In the event of damage the remaining AU$3,500 will be collected at the time of damage report.

If the Liability Reduction Option or the Bonus Pack is selected the security deposit is AU$500.
The AU$500 is taken as an imprint to the hirer’s credit card upon collection. An imprint simply records a figure against the hirers credit card of AU$500 that Britz can then debit if required.

The security deposit is fully refundable, , including the credit card surcharge if the card used to provide the vehicle security deposit is a Visa or MasterCard provided the caravan or camper trailer is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, in a clean condition and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol or diesel) and gas bottles. Except where the customer has purchased PGO (PGO is included in the Britz Bonus Pack) failure to return the caravan or camper trailer with full LPG bottles will result in refill charges, which will be
advised upon return of the caravan and/or camper trailer.

Britz reserves the right to retain AU$220 for cleaning if the caravan or camper trailer if not returned in a clean condition. This includes smoking related cleaning, as smoking is not permitted in the caravan or camper trailer. The toilet where applicable and waste water tank must be emptied prior to the return of the caravan or camper trailer or an additional AU$125 soiling fee will be retained per item not emptied.

FOR SECURITY PURPOSES, ONLY THE HIRERS CREDIT CARD CAN BE USED FOR SECURITY DEPOSITS.

EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS
All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations and/or bank transaction fees there could be some variance amounts refunded compared to the amounts initially charged.

Britz does not accept any liability for variances up or down.

CREDIT CARDS
The credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted credit cards are Visa Card, MasterCard and American Express. A non-refundable 2% administration fee will apply to all Visa and MasterCard transactions or 4.5% for American Express. Credit card administration fees also apply to debited security deposits and only the hirer’s credit card is acceptable to use for the purpose of the security deposit.

PERSONAL AND COMPANY CHEQUES
Personal and company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be received by Britz 14 working days prior to commencement of the hire/s.

The day of the caravans or camper trailers return is counted as the final day of the rental. Caravans and camper trailers are required to be collected and returned within business hours.
- Minimum rental period is 3 days, with the exception of one-way hires, which are subject to a 7-day minimum hire requirement. There are no one-way rentals available to/from Darwin.

- Minimum rental period is subject to change during other peak periods and will be advised prior to make a booking.
- When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.
- Rates are subject to change. If a rate change is made this will be effective from the next Monday. For this reason all quotes expire at the close of business each Sunday.
- Late pick-up or early return of the caravan or camper trailer does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
- These rates and terms may not apply to rentals exceeding 100 days, which includes multihires. Requests for quotes/bookings should be directed first to Reservations.
- If the customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Reservations or any of the Britz branches. The rental extension is subject to caravan or camper trailer availability. The cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension. The rate charged will not reflect the original rate booked. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee of AU$300 in addition to the daily rate.

ROAD RESTRICTIONS
- Caravans and camper trailers can only be towed on sealed/bitumen roads and are not suitable for off-road conditions. The only exceptions to this are well-maintained access roads of less than twelve kilometres to recognised campgrounds and well-maintained, recognised roads on Kangaroo Island (South Australia).

Different rates may apply based on the amendment made.

Consecutive hire in Australia of the same product can be combined to qualify if the collection date/s are within a 3-month period. For all rentals to qualify each booking needs to be made at the same time. If a customer makes another booking at a later time, the new booking can be combined to qualify if the collection date/s are within a 3-month period however; the original booking/s will only qualify for a discount if the booking/s are not already travelling or travelled.

Longer-term discounts must be requested at the time of booking.

If multiple hires are within the same country and total days exceed 50 days only the maximum charge applicable to the Liability Reduction Option or the Britz Bonus Pack will apply.

Terms of booking on this website

Information disclaimer
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.

To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00

The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

- Rental days are charged per calendar day. When calculating the number of days a caravan or camper trailer is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental.
- Minimum rental period is 10 days for rentals that collect between the 15 December and 05 January
- Minimum rental period is 7 days for rentals that collect between 04 April and 09 April 2012 (Easter long weekend dates subject to change annually).
- Minimum rental period is 7 days for hires that collect in Sydney over the Bathurst period and Melbourne over the Moto GP period (both events are typically held over long weekends in October – contact Reservations for exact details if required – minimum requirements are advised at time of quotation and booking).
- All caravan or camper trailer rentals to/from the Darwin location must be collected and returned between 01 April and 30 November 2012.

MULTIPLE RENTALS
Should a customer have more than one consecutive rental they can be combined to qualify for longer-term hire discounts off the daily hire rate for the caravan/camper trailer.

For amounts over AU$200, Britz will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the customer was not directly responsible for the damage. GST receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.

Liability

Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.

Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

The security deposit is fully refundable provided the caravan or camper trailer is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, in a clean condition and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol or diesel) and gas bottles. Except where the customer has purchased PGO (PGO is included in the Britz Bonus Pack) failure to return the caravan or camper trailer with full LPG bottles will result in refill charges, which will be advised upon return of the caravan and/or camper trailer.
